Elektra complex in dissociative identity disorder: A case report

Introduction
Dissociative identity disorder is a quite popular psychiatric diagnosis in general public but in actuality has a very low prevalence rate. Dissociative identity disorders are characterized by disruption of identity characterized by two or more distinct personality states with its own memories, behaviour, and preferences.
ObjectivesAuthors present a case report about a patient of Dissociative identity disorder with Elektra complex as unconscious conflict.
MethodsA case report along with literature review forms the basis of discussion.
ResultsMrs A, 30 years female, a housewife, belonging to low socioeconomic status, reported to the OPD, along with her husband. About 1 year ago her family members noticed that her behaviour and action became altered. Such alteration in behaviour was only episodic. A detailed evaluation was done and a diagnosis of Dissociative identity disorder was established. The treatment included psychotherapy facilitated by hypnosis addressing the conflict along with escitalopram 10 mg once a day and clonazepam 0.5mg at night, clonazepam was tapered and stopped within 1 month while escitalopram was hiked upto 20 mg and patient improved along with decrease DES scores.
ConclusionsIn Freudian psychology the girl child identifies with her mother and represses her sexual feelings toward her father commonly known as the Elektra complex. In spite of trance and possession syndrome being more prevalent in countries like India, we urge to keep dissociative identity disorder as a differential in order to catch the eye of the clinicians and researchers on the recognition of clinical manifestation and exploration of therapeutic strategies.

In this study, an atmospheric pressure cold plasma jet has been generated based on dielectric barrier discharge plasma. The double ring electrode configuration is used and analysis has been performed subjected to wide range of supply frequencies up to 25 kHz and supply voltage up to 6 kV. The electrical characterization of the plasma jet has been carried out using a high voltage probe. The V-I characteristics of the developed cold plasma jet have been studied and the consumption of the power has been analyzed at various input combinations of supply frequency and applied voltage. Consequently, the supply voltage and supply frequency are optimized with respect to the discharge current and jet length for optimum power consumption. The peak power consumed for glow discharge operation has been found to be 1.27 W in the optimized configuration.

Objective:
There are considerable data on the possible association between streptococcal infection and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), particularly the relation between Sydenham’s chorea (SC) and OCD. However, neuropsychiatric sequelae related to streptococcal infection are mainly reported in children. In this preliminary study, we examined prevalence of OCD in a group of adult subjects with established rheumatic heart disease (RHD). We hypothesized that the rate of OCD would be higher than the known general population rates.
Method:One hundred adult subjects with RHD were evaluated for OCD and other comorbid psychiatric disorders using well-known psychiatric assessment tools. A qualified psychiatrist conducted the assessments. The diagnoses were made according to DSM-IV criteria.
Results:The rate of clinical OCD and subclinical OCD was 10% and 3%, respectively (n = 13), a rate much higher than the 1–3% rate reported in general population. Of the 13 subjects, only three had a history of SC (23%).
Conclusions:OCD could be a long-term sequel in adults with a history of rheumatic fever in childhood, even in the absence of frank chorea. The findings call for systematic research in this little explored area.

In this work, silver nanoparticles were synthesized by two methods: polyol and chemical reduction using sodium borohydride (NaBH4). In both cases, silver nitrate was employed as starting metallic salt and Poly-vinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as surfactant agent. The average nanoparticles size was correlated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and quasielastic light scattering (QELS). The experimental results indicate that the average particle sizes measured by QELS were slightly higher than those obtained directly by TEM. Therefore, this work confirms that the QELS technique can give rapid and approximate average-particle size values in comparison with those obtained through TEM direct observations.

Field experiments were conducted during the rainy seasons (June–October) of 1978 and 1979 in order to determine the effect of fertilizer N rates (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg N/ha) on yield and yield attributes of some new sorghum cultivars in northern India. Sorghum hybrid varieties yielded more than pure line varieties, hybrid CSH 5 outyielding all other cultivars including other hybrid varieties because of its greatest number of grains per panicle. Nitrogen application at 80 or 120 kg N/ha brought about significant improvement in number of grains per panicle and yield per ha.
Cultivar Χ N rate interactions were significant, in affecting the yield per ha and number of grains per panicle in 1978, whereas such differential response of sorghum cultivars to N rates did not occur in 1979. Sorghum hybrid varieties, even at lower N rates, produced identical yields to the pure line varieties supplied with higher N rates.

Field experiments during the wet seasons of 1981–1985 determined the response of soya bean to the application of P, K and Mo at four locations in the Nigerian savanna. Soya bean was grown at factorial combinations of four rates of P (0, 13·2, 26·4 and 396 kg P/ha) and two rates of K. (0 or 41·5 kg K/ha) in 1981, but in subsequent years two or three rates of Mo (0, 0·5 or 1·0 kg ammonium molybdate/ha) were included in a randomized complete block design with three replications at all locations.
Significant yield increases due to the application of P were recorded in 10 out of 11 trials. Yield increases due to 13·2 or 26·4 kg P/ha were from 29 to 210% over the control. The effects of K and Mo application were not significant in 10 out of 11 trials and eight out of nine trials, respectively. Whereas P x Mo interaction effects were significant in three trials only, highest yields were recorded due to application of 26·4 or 39·6 kg P/ha in combination with 0·5 kg ammonium molybdate/ha.
Application of P increased the percentage of P in soya-bean leaves significantly and a range of 0·275–0·330% P appears to be the critical nutrient range of P in soya-bean leaves at full bloom stage. Application of K had no effect on K concentration in leaves.
Synthesis of ZnO2 Nanocrystals Produced by Hydrothermal Process

Zinc peroxide (ZnO2) nanocrystals were directly produced by hydrothermal process. The nanocrystals were synthesized using zinc acetate as precursor and hydrogen peroxide as oxidant agent. The ZnO2 powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results of transmission electron microscopy indicated that the ZnO2powders consisted of nanocrystals with diameters below to 20 nm and a faceted morphology. High resolution electron microscopy observations have been used in order to the structural characterization. ZnO2 nanocrystals exhibit a well-crystallized structure.

Responses of nodulating and non-nodulating isolines of Clark and Harosoy to applications of N were studied, to evaluate the suitability of symbiosis versus N fertilization for soybean. Nodulating lines did not respond to N when they were either effectively inoculated or raised on a field which had been under inoculated soybean in the past. On a field brought under soybean for the first time, uninoculated Clark and Harosoy needed 300 and 235 kg. N/ha. respectively to give maximum yields. Symbiosis proved better than N fertilization for the N nutrition of soybean.

Seed yam production potential of three yam species (Dioscorea rotundata, Dioscorea alata and Dioscorea cayenensis) was assessed for two systems – the traditional method using 100 to 200 g setts, and the mini-sett technique using 25, 20, 15 and 10 g setts cut from mother tubers. The mini-sett technique required only 6–33% of the number of tubers needed for the traditional planting system, and resulted in plants superior to those produced by the traditional method in all their production attributes especially in the case of D. alata and D. rotundata.

Magnesium hydride particles are suspended in an oil-based medium with dispersants to create a slurry that has great potential for hydrogen production and storage. Hydrogen is generated whenever needed by mixing the magnesium hydride slurry with water in a mixer. The byproduct is benign magnesium hydroxide (milk of magnesia). The primary purpose of the slurry is to moderate the reaction, allow thermal management and make it pumpable so it can be transported and metered like liquids so that the existing transportation infrastructure can be used. Thus, the magnesium hydride slurry lends itself well for automotive applications in conjunction with fuel cells. For such large-volume automotive applications, the success and economic viability of employing magnesium hydride slurry to transport and store hydrogen will depend on developing an effective recycling system for the magnesium hydroxide by-products. This paper discusses the feasibility of employing the Solid-Oxide-Oxygen-Ion-Conducting-Membrane (SOM) process for converting the by-product magnesium hydroxide to magnesium and regenerating the magnesium hydride slurry. The SOM process, in principle, utilizes a tubular yttria-stabilized-zirconia-based solid-oxide-fuel-cell as an anode in the temperature range 1100 – 1300 °C. The magnesium hydroxide is dissolved in a molten ionic flux and with the application of an electrical potential between an inert cathode in the flux and the anode, the oxygen ions are pumped out of the flux through the zirconia membrane and are oxidized at the anode. Magnesium vapor evolves at the cathode and is condensed in a separate chamber (condenser). By performing in-situ reforming of gaseous hydrocarbons within the tubular zirconia anode one can minimize the electrical power required for the electrolysis and generate the required hydrogen needed to convert the magnesium vapors in the condenser back to magnesium hydride.

The optical constants of Si/ZnO composite films grown on quartz glass substrates were determined in the spectral range 1.5–5.0 eV by spectroscopic ellipsometry using a rotating-analyzer ellipsometer. The structure of the samples was modeled by a two-phase (substrate–film) model, and the optical functions of the film were parameterized through different effective medium approximations. The results allowed us to estimate the microstructural film parameters, such as film thickness, the volume fractions of each of the constituents, and optical constants.

Cathodoluminescence (CL) technique has been employed to study the optical properties of GaSb after deposition of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H). CL images recorded at various depths in the samples clearly show passivation of extended defects on the surface as well as in the bulk region. The passivation of various recombination centres in the bulk is attributed to formation of hydrogen-impurity complexes by diffusion of hydrogen ions from the plasma. Enhancement in luminescence intensity is seen due to passivation of non-radiative recombination centres. The passivation efficiency is found to improve with increase in a-Si:H deposition temperature.
